Taken from Faza'il - e- A'maal by Shaikhul Hadith Maulana Muhammed Zakariyya RA... I sincerely hope that this does not infringe any copyrights

Surah Al Maa-idah"This day I have perfected your religion for you; completed my favour upon you;and have chosen for you islam as your religion"

Oce a learned person from amongst the Jews said to Umar (R.A). :" In the Qur'aan you people read a certain vers. If that verse had been revealed to us, we would have celebrated that day annually." Umar R.A. inquired: "which verse is that?" He replied: "Al Yowma Akmaltu Lakum Deenakum." (The verse from Surah Maa-idaah quoted above) Umar (R.A.) said: "Verily I remember the day and place where this verse was revealed (and apart from the revelation of this verse, which was on a Friday) it was already a double celebration for us. Firstly it was Friday --- A day of celebration for all Muslims, and secondly, it was the day of Arafaat --- a day of celebration for pilgrams. Umar (R.A.) further stated that this verse was revealed on a Friday after As'r on the day of Arafaat while Rasulullah (SAW) was seated on his she camel. It is further stated in the hadith that no further verses were revealed after this one with regards to halaal and haraam.
The camel was forced to sit down because of the great weight ascending upon it on account of the revelation. This is what normally happened. Aa'sha (R.A) states that, when Rasulullah (SAW) was seated on a camel, the camel used to lower its neck being unable to lift it or move a step until revelation had ended. Abdullah ibn Umar (R.A) relatees from Rasulullah (SAW)that when revelation descended upon him he feared that he would lose his life. (Durre Manthoor) Zaid ibn Thabit (R.A) stated that when the verse 95 in Surah 4 was being revealed I was sitting next to Rasulullah (SAW). Rasulullah (SAW) then became like one in a state of semi- consciousness, and he put his thigh upon mine, the weight of which was so great that i felt that my leg would break.(Durre Manthoor) This was due to the greatness of Allah's words, which we nowadays read very casually and superficially as though it were ordinary speech.

REFRAINING FROM SHUBUHAAT (DOUBTFUL ELEMENTS)

Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) said:

"Verily Halaal is clear and verily Haraam is clear. Between these two (classes) there are doubtful affairs and I will give you an example of that. Allah has protected a certain area and the protected area of Allah is His prohibitions. Whoever pastures near this 'himaa' (protected area) will be close to violating it and whoever mixes with doubtful elements will be close to lose." [Refer to Abu Da'ud -chapter no.3 relating to refraining from 'Shubuhaat', hadith no.33132]

There are thus three primary classes of goods and activities.

Permitted

Prohibited

Doubtful

Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) warns us against the third class. If it is indeed prohibited then the person who abstains from it, saves himself from Haraam. If it is truly Halaal, then he will obtain a reward since he did not venture into it because of doubt and also because Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) encouraged us to abstain from the doubtful aspects which could be prohibited.

This principle can also apply in those things, the permissibility of which the jurists differ upon.

Once recognition is obtained through learning, ignorance is not excuse for perpetrating the prohibited.

Those who are led by their courage to enter doubtful transactions will eventually become accustomed to it and often expose themselves to danger through risks. Their daringness thus makes them deserve the resultant losses, harms and punishments.

Muslims should therefore not only refrain from selling the' Haraam - prohibited' commodities like idols, pornography, liquor etc, but also abstain from doubtful aspects. We should not purchase from people whose wares are from doubtful origin, eg. if there exists the possibility of the goods being stolen.

The above hadith is authentic as it is narrated by Bukhari, Muslim, Tirmizi, Nasaa'e and ibn Majah.

The hadith is narrated by Nu'man bin Bashir in two different ways. The second narration is followed by the wording "Between the two (classes) are "mushtabahaat" - doubtful elements which are not recognised by many people. So the person who abstains from "shubuhaat" protects his "Deen -religion" and the person who engages in "shubuhaat" will enter into the Haraam.

The protection of one's Deen is highly important so that he strives to the ultimate to save himself from "Jahannam" - hell while recognising that the loss of his "Deen" will imbue a person with evil attributes of the "Kuffaar" -disbelievers. The protection of one's honour will be the means for people to trust him and to be willing to deal with him. Destroying one's honour can thus also lead to material loss due to peoples unwillingness to deal with him.

Once Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) refused to carry on eating the food that he tasted after being inspired that it was not obtained in a suitable way. It happened that he was invited with some of his Sahaaba to a lady's place. She obtained a sheep from a woman who gave it to her without the permission of her husband who owned it. Rasulullah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) requested that the food be given to the prisoners instead. [Refer to Abu Da'ud hadith 3316, chapter no 3 relating to abstention from Shubuhaat"].

This is a lesson that one should also abstain from taking any item without the consent of the actual owner since his refusal can cause a problem not only socially, but also if the item taken is already utilised and is irreplaceable. One cannot also be certain whether the owner of an article has contracted to sell or agreed to lend the article to any other person.

Therefore, even a home should not be occupied without a prior rental agreement with the actual owner.

Living within the rules of Allah will protect us from all forms of shame.

TULKAREM: A WEEK OF EXTREME VIOLENCE
By Rebecca Murray

August 14, 2002

I have just spent the past week in Tulkarem.

Tulkarem straddles the line of the West Bank and Israel, where you can see the lights of Netanya and the sea in the distance. But the city is completely isolated, and this imprisonment heavily enforced by the surrounding Israeli military.

This is a city where extreme violence carried out by the Israeli military on all Palestinian citizens is hushed up. Journalists are strictly forbidden from this 'military zone'.

Apaches this past week have been flying low over the city day and night, firing into Tulkarem camp and city with routine frequency. Tanks have occupied the center and outskirts of the city, also firing often. And the soldiers in jeeps, many of them Druze, drive around constantly, shouting that if they see anyone on the street they will shoot.

The military is very busy arresting and shooting at civilians, on many occasions children as young as seven years old. Journalists have been threatened with arrest unless they get out of town immediately, their film confiscated on site. This week Ha'aretz reporter Gideon Levy's car was fired upon with no provacation (a bullet straight in the center of the windshield), the only thing saving his life being the bullet proof glass.

COLD BLOODED EXECUTIONS

On Tuesday, August 7th, the military executed one of the men on their "wanted list", Ziad D'ayas, 28 years old, in cold blood. They also murdered two Palestinian civilians in the vicinity, afterwards claiming they too were "wanted". This official military statement is an absolute untruth.

One, Mahair Jesmawi, 17 years old, was a student who had just learnt moments before he had just passed his end of the year school examinations. Elated, he stepped out briefly onto the street and was killed. The other was Mohammed Saidz, 24 years old, a mechanic working in his shop who had the bad luck to be happened upon by soldiers going after Ziad. He was shot and died a slow death after ambulances were prevented from retrieving him.

This military action was conducted in a particulary gruesome way. According to eyewitnesses in neighbouring buildings, it started around 9 am that morning. Snipers, and soldiers, many in plain clothers surrounded the area of the mechanic's roof where Ziad was sleeping. They proceeded to aim and shoot, hitting Ziad in his leg and neck. Ziad fell off the roof into the shop, breaking his limbs but still alive. They then proceeded to bash him all over his body with their guns, before firing 9 dum dum bullets directly into his head, killing him instantly. Their dogs were set on the body, and acid was poured on his arms, legs, and stomach.

Ambulances were prevented from moving for five hours that morning. One tried to retrieve the three bodies that the military held in a small field outside the mechanic's house, but the ambulance was fired upon and had to turn back. Finally, a civilian car rushed the bodies to the government hospital as soon as the soldiers left the the vicinity.

I viewed the bodies as they came in. Ziad's body was grotesquely tortured, limbs broken, and his skin peeled off in huge sections from the acid. His head was half blown off. Mahair, the 17 year old student, was shot in the head. And Mohammed, the mechanic, had a bullet in his torso.

Meanwhile, the houses in the area of the murders were emptied of families, as the soldiers went through each one, damaging furniture, stealing money on two occasions. A group of roughly thirty men were arrested and taken to Israel, including two wounded by live ammunition.

THE HOSPITAL AND AMBULANCES UNDER SIEGE

The ambulance dispatch center is next to Tulkarem's government hospital. On three occasions this past week both the hospital and ambulance entrance have been blocked by tanks and jeeps. Apparently this is quite normal.

On these occasions, soldiers scream at the hospital gate keepers to close the gates. Once, to punctuate their point, the soldiers fired live ammunition through the gaps in the gate, towards the emergency room entrance, hitting a car in the process. Thankfully, the car had no occupants at the time.

On these three occasions the Red Cross has been informed by the military that the ambulances cannot move AT ALL. Shooting at moving ambulances is unfortunately not uncommon in Tulkarem.

A DECIMATED AMBULANCE

Three days ago, the ambulance center wanted to deliver an ambulance that had been decimated by tank fire on March 7th, to the main ambulance center in Ramallah.

The attack on this particular ambulance resulted in the death of the driver, Ibrahim. The vehicle was shot upon without warning by a tank as Ibrahim was heading back to the hospital after delivering a patient. He was killed by numerous bullets to the head. His passenger, a medic called Sophia, was pushed down onto the floor of the ambulance by Ibrahim moments before he was killed, so luckily escaped with only shrapnel all over her body.

The ambulance center had to negotiate with the soldiers at Tulkerem's checkpoint to transport this badly damaged ambulance through. When a soldier saw the 30 odd bullet holes in the windshield and body of the vehicle, as well as Ibrahim's blood and hair smeared on the inside of the driver's door, he asked me what happened. When the story was told, the soldier's response was, "they must have been fired upon by their own people". "No, it was definitly an Israeli tank," I said. [caught on film, eyewitness accounts, as well as the medic's account] "Well... then they must have been terrorists," the soldier adamantly replied.

SUMMER CAMP FOR KIDS CONTINUES UNDER FIRE

The summer camp for children is popular, but often caught up in the violence. The kids have been in the downtown camp on numerous occasions when the tanks come in to the downtown area and start firing.

The kids who attend (roughly 7 - 10 years old) are from both the city and the camp. Every morning the kids, escourted by the teachers run single file along the sides of buildings to reach the summer camp. The same routine happens upon their return home.

Running to the homes of the kids one afternoon we came across a tank and had to duck into a nearby house. The kids were terrified, one 8 year old girl sobbing with fear uncontrollaby. The tank opened fire outside the house as we cowered on the floor.

Thankfully, there was a small kitten lounging on the floor. We used it to divert the kids' attention from the blasts outside, playfully pulling the kitten's tail and saying "look, look." They focused on the kitten and the small girl stopped crying. We left when when the street fell silent again, and ran to their houses.

TO SUM UP

It is hard to conclude this essay of what was witnessed this bloody week in Tulkarem. The violence was so strong, and details brutal. For more information please call:

Respected Brother/Sister in Islam

Asallaamu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullaahi Wa Barakaatuhu

Mujahideen are fine and all praise is to Allah..

This interview was published in Arabic by Markaz Al Dirasaat wa Al Buhooth
July 17, 2002 and has been translated to English by JUS translators. In this
interview, Muhammad Tayyeb Agha, spokesman for the Commander of the
Faithful, Mullah Omar, gives us a glimpse of the current activities of
Mullah Omar and the Taliban regime inside Afghanistan.

Interviewer: First, what is the latest news on Ameer ul Mu'mineen Mullah
Muhammad Omar and Sheikh Osama bin Laden - may Allah preserve him - and the
news of the Mujahideen in general?

Tayyeb Agha: All praise is to Allah, and peace and blessings be upon His
messenger and his family and companions and who was guided by the guidance.
First, we want to thank «Markaz Darasat wa Al-Buhoos Al-Islami» for its
great efforts to cover Mujahideen news and to connect the Islamic Ummah
(Islamic nation) with the events of the Crusader war that America is leading
against the Muslims in Afghanistan and to confront the misleading propaganda
by the hostile media machine that is distorting the real facts.

As for the news of the Mujahideen, they are fine and all praise is to Allah.
There are continuous operations against the enemy; however the media doesn't
publish most of them for reasons that are obvious to everyone. And we are
planning for new special attacks that will need no further explanation soon,
Allah willingly. Each day, sympathy increases for the Mujahideen and hatred
grows against the Americans and their allies in Afghanistan. And the
conflicts among the different factions in Karzai's regime that are fighting
against each other for power are growing every day. And all these things
bring glad tidings.

And Ameer ul Mu'mineen (Mullah Muhammad Omar), may Allah preserve him, is in
good health and he is leading the Mujahideen and organizing the operations,
fulfilling his duties as leader in a normal way and all praise is to Allah.
And Sheikh Osama bin Laden - may Allah preserve him - is in good health,
too. He will possibly appear very soon in the media.

Interviewer: There are reports that there are conflicts among the Mujahideen
and a fight for positions in the leadership. Are these reports true?

Tayyeb Agha: These are baseless rumors which are part of the propaganda war
of the enemies against Islam and the Muslims everywhere and in all times.

The Mujahideen aren't students of power and don't compete for power like
others do. We are students of truth and work for establishing this truth and
for this cause we sacrifice our power. Indeed we have abandoned power and as
Ameer ul Mu'mineen has said, if we only had wanted the power, we would have
accepted America's demands and America wouldn't have only restrained from
waging a war but it would have also supported us with money and men and with
everything necessary to remain in power just like all regimes in the Islamic
world. However we refused the power that serves the American and crusaders'
interests. The Islamic Ummah (nation) is not in need of one more ruling
system like that. The power in our opinion is the means to establish Allah's
law (Sharia) and not our goal per se. According to the Islamic understanding
of power, the Mujahideen don't compete for the positions in the leadership.

Interviewer: After nine months from the beginning of the US war against
Afghanistan, what goals has this campaign achieved so far?

Tayyeb Agha: The officially declared goals of this war are to arrest of
Ameer ul Mu'mineen and Sheikh Osama bin Laden and the other leaders of the
Mujahideen, as well as the destruction of the source of horror that since
the 11th September made the Americans live in an unbearable situation of
constant fear, and the unification of Afghanistan under a central regime
that guarantees and serves the American interests.

The Americans have failed to achieve any of these goals. So Ameer ul
Mu'mineen and Sheikh Osama and the other leaders of the Mujahideen - May
Allah preserve them - were not harmed, and praise be to Allah.

The American security which was the ultimate purpose of this worldwide
crusader campaign is getting worse day after day and the dangers that are
threatening the US security are increasing daily according to very high
military, political and security representatives in America. Furthermore
Afghanistan is still divided and every region is ruled by one of the former
warlords who are fighting each other for the power. And the central regime
has no authority even on the outskirts of Kabul rather than on the
districts.

The American campaign against Afghanistan has failed to achieve its main
goals and this is a fact that many analysts and observers have admitted. If
the US campaign is one of the reasons why the Mujahideen left the power for
a time, then it will be one of the reasons for their return to the power in
a stronger way Allah willingly. The atrocities by these US troops and their
allies against the country and its people in Afghanistan are one of the
strongest reasons for the public opposition against them and support for the
Mujahideen.

Interviewer: It is being said among some Afghans that the standing of the
Taliban government with Sheikh Osama bin Laden is the main reason for the US
war against them and that it was possible to prevent this war if they had
abandoned him. What is the opinion of the Taliban on this statement?

Tayyeb Agha: We strongly believe that we are targeted by the worldwide Kuffr
(Disbelief) under the leadership of America for one main reason which is our
implementation of Allah's law (Sharia) and our refusal to follow any
disbelieving (Kuffr) power. All other motives that the Disbelievers
propagate again and again stem from this main reason. And if - Allah
forbid - we had accepted to cease protecting Sheikh Osama (and handed him
over), they wouldn't have been satisfied with that and they would have
continued with the issue of «human rights» and the «women topic» and then
the issue of drugs although we have destroyed them completely by the
admission of the UN etc.

This is a fact that Ameer ul Mu'mineen has stresses again and again. That's
why he has refused to open the door for any concessions for Allah has
informed us about the truth of them (the Disbelievers): «Never will the Jews
nor the Christians be pleased with you till you follow their religion...»
[Qur'an 2:120]

Interviewer: Do you have a certain message for the Islamic Ummah (nation)
you would like to convey?

Tayyeb Agha: We bring the glad tidings to the Ummah that America, the head
of the worldwide Kuffr (Disbelief), came on its own feet to its grave in
Afghanistan. And it is the law of Allah that this blessed land is the
graveyard for the greatest Kuffr empires of the history. Thus it was the
grave for the British Empire and after that for the Soviet Union and Allah
willingly it will become the beginning of the collapse of the American
Crusader Empire.

I would like to use this opportunity to thank everyone who stood with the
Mujahideen in this difficult situation and especially those sincere scholars
who have said the truth never afraid of the blame of the blamers and also
the righteous sons of the Ummah who have sacrificed the most precious that
they posses in supporting the Jihad and the Mujahideen, we ask Allah to
accept our and their efforts.

And we reassure everyone that we are continuing on this path and neither
enticements and promises nor blackmail and terror will put us off course,
Allah willingly. We remind them (the Islamic Ummah) that their support and
help had and still have great effects on our steadfastness with the mercy of
Allah, and we ask them not forget us in their prayers.

Jabir son of Abd Allah (RAA) reported that he heard the messenger of Allah
(SAW) say in the year of the conquest of Makka:

" Allah and His messenger prohibit the sale of alcohol, dead animals,
pigs and idols. "

Someone asked:

" Oh, messenger of Allah, what about the fat of dead animals? It can
be used to insulate ships, soften (tanned) hides, and provide light
(e.g., candles). "

The messenger of Allah (SAW) answered:

" No, this too is forbidden. " and then said:
" May Allah punish the Jews! When He made fat unlawful for them to
eat, they melted it, sold it and consumed its price. "

1. Hazrat ibn Abbas (Radiallahu anhuma) narrates, Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam) passed by some graves in Madinah, he turned his attention towards them and said, "Peace be upon you O' dwellers of the grave, may Allah forgive us and you - you have preceded us to the grave and we are following in your footsteps. (Mishkaat)

2. Rasulullah (Sallallahu alahi wa sallam) said, " I initially prohibited you from visiting graves, you may visit them (from now), for it certainly creates abstemiousness for the world and reminds one of the hereafter. " (Mishkaat)

3.Rasulullah (Sallallahu alahi wa sallam) said, "Whosoever visits the grave of his parents, or one them, every Friday, his (minor) sins are forgiven and he will be counted amongst the righteous. (Mishkaat)

Commentary: Due to our absorption and indulgence in day to day activities the Sunnah practice of visiting the graveyard has become somewhat non-existent. We learn from hadith the great virtues and benefit of this practice. Visiting the graveyard not only earns reward and pardon but also serves as an effective reminder of our final abode, destination and life after death. Reminding oneself of death helps to bring about a balance in one's life, preventing one from over indulging in worldly pursuits and futile exercises. Furthermore visiting the graveyard is also a source of benefit and happiness for the deceased.

Got this story off an Email. No Its not de ja vu..I posted it on both my sites cos even though it is not Islamic...i felt that there is a lesson to be learnt here and i should share it .. just as a matter of interest - I first heard this from an imam at a Nikaah I atended not so long ago... he was advising the groom to be about keeping love and mohabbat in the home

A woman came out of her house and saw 3 old men with long white beards sitting in her front yard. She did not recognize them. She said "I don't think I know you, but you must be hungry. Please come in and have something to eat."

"Is the man of the house home?", they asked.

"No", she replied. "He's out."

"Then we cannot come in", they replied.

In the evening when her husband came home, she told him what had happened. "Go tell them I am home and invite them in!"

The woman went out and invited the men in.

"We do not go into a House together," they replied.

"Why is that?" she asked.

One of the old men explained: "His name is Wealth," he said pointing to one of his friends, and said pointing to another one, "He is Success, and I am Love." Then he added, "Now go in and discuss with your husband which one of us you want in your home."

The woman went in and told her husband what was said. Her husband was overjoyed. "How nice!!", he said. "Since that is the case, let us invite Wealth. We have been having a tough time. Let him come and fill our home with wealth!"

His wife disagreed. "My dear, why don't we invite Success? If sucess comes in, our business will go well , then we will automatically get wealth"

Their little daughter was listening from the other corner of the house. She jumped in with her own suggestion: "Would it not be better to invite Love?Mummy, Daddy - You always said that we should have love for each other - Our home will then be filled with love!"

"Let us heed our daughter's advice," said the husband to his wife. "Go out and invite Love to be our guest."

The woman went out and asked the 3 old men, "Which one of you is Love? Please come in and be our guest."

Love got up and started walking toward the house. The other 2 also got up and followed him.

Surprised, the lady asked Wealth and Success: "I only invited Love, Why are you coming in?"

The old men replied together: "If you had invited Wealth or Success, the other two of us would've stayed out, but since you invited Love, wherever he goes, we go with him. Wherever there is Love, there is also Wealth and Success!!!!!!"

Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alayhi Wasallam) said, "There is no obedience to the creation where there is disobedience to the creator. " (Mishkaat )

Commentary : Allah Ta'ala has placed obedience and kindness to parents immediately after his obedience and worship. Similarly the importance ofbeing obedient and kind to elders, tutors and other human beings has been stressed in the Noble Quran and the Hadith.
However, the principle behind these injunctions and advices is, as long as they do not contradict the law of Allah Ta'ala then we should be obedient and not show disrespect. If the advice or order from parents and elders is contrary to Shariah then to obey them will be impermissible. This disobedience, in order to be obedient to Allah Ta'ala, should nevertheless be done with respect and humility

In the Name of Allaah, The Most Gracious, The Most Kind

Abu Hurairah (RAA) reported that the messenger of Allah (SAW) said what
translated means:

" Let not one of you say: ' Oh Lord! Forgive me if You will; bestow
mercy on me if You will'! But supplicate to Allah with certitude for
no one has the power to compel Him."

Al-Bukhari

Abu Hurairah (RAA) reported that the messenger of Allah (SAW) said what
translated means:

" The destitute (miskeen) is not one who goes around begging from
people and desists when given a morsel or two. The destitute is
a person who does not have enough for his sustenance, yet people
do not realize that (his needy condition) so as to give him
in charity, and he does not ask people (for charity). "

Al-Bukhari

translated means:

" By He in Whose hand my soul is (i.e, by Allah), it is better for
one of you to take a rope, cut firewood and carry it on his
back (as a means of making a living) than to ask others (for charity)
whether they give it to him or withhold it from him. "

Al-Bukhari

Abu Hurairah (RAA) reported that a man asked the messenger of Allah (SAW)
about what charity is rewarded most. The messenger of Allah (SAW) said
what translated means:

" (The charity that is most rewarded is) To give when you are healthy,
anxious to accumulate money, afraid of poverty and hoping for wealth,
not waiting until you are on your death bed to say: give this (money)
to so and so and this to so and so and this person had that. "

Al-Bukhari
